Walnuts

I got the message from one of my brothers. He said that the walnuts are falling off the trees but not many of the leaves have dropped yet.

Ya Hoo! Winter baking and snacking would just not be the same without walnuts. I had a busy week ahead of me so I kept putting off the task. Fearing that I had waited too long and that friends and neighbors would have already picked up the harvest, I drove over with a few buckets to see what I could find.

Walnuts on the ground beneath the tree, ready to be picked up.

The nuts were plentiful and strewn about on the lawn. It took about an hour to pick five buckets full.

The ground was dry and the nuts were broken out of their shells. It was the cleanest, easiest picking that I have had in years!

Five buckets full of walnuts. Now comes the fun of drying and cracking the harvest. You will be seeing the updated post when I finally get around to that!
