The River Looks Inky

Alder trees that have lost most of their leaves. The alder trees have now lost most of their leaves for the year. The fallen leaves land in the river and as they brown, turn the water as dark as ink. Alder trees along the river that have lost most of their leaves.

Although you can still see the reflection of the blue sky, the water itself is very dark. This phenomenon happens every fall, yet it still takes me by surprise. It is noticeable with small amounts of water, like when filling the stock tanks and even when filling a white five gallon bucket.

The leaf-steeped water doesn’t seem to bother the cows, they do not hesitate to drink it.
