The Scotch Broom keeps trying to take over the farm. This picture is down by the river. The area was underwater during the flood eight years ago and the seeds were deposited during the high water. We had run the bulldozer over the area a couple of years ago to rip out the head-high plants and still I see ones growing back.
At this stage, the stems are very woody and cannot be cut with manual clippers. I have used a chainsaw in the past but the plant needs to be hacked off below ground level or pulled out in order to get rid of each plant. This is one of the fall and winter jobs that will stay on my list for several years until I can get them under control.
