Taming the Wild

I have been thinking about warm weather and looking forward to getting out into the garden even though we are in the middle of winter.

The side yard area of the small greens pallet is a rocky bank of soil. It has established violas (a plant that is a cross between a pansy and a violet), but it still looks a little bare in the spring and summer months. In the fall and winter the violas die back after naturally re-seeding the area for next years crop.

I added some good top soil right over the remnants of the violas and raked in a packet of wildflowers to the mix. All that is needed is time and sunshine for the dormant wildflowers to spring to life.
