The sunflowers along the side of the garden are very happy this year. With our cool evenings and shorter sunlight than what is normal in the valley, it is a rare year when we actually get the sunflowers to ripen with tasty seeds. This are more just to add a splash of color in the garden.
We can have a frost any day, we even had one day already that dipped into the 30’s during the first week of September. Once we have a frost the sunflowers will be done for the year. If the frost holds off until mid October, I may just have a taste of the sunflower seeds for a change, but I’m not going to hold my breath.
