A board meeting for the local river keepers, the Upper Nehalem Watershed Council was held in Vernonia this past week. It was a good opportunity to get another pickup load of seedlings for the riparian area that we have been concentrating on this year.
It was a busy Saturday with 80 additional seedlings being added along this bank of the river with the help of the tractor to do all the digging with the power-driven auger.
Completing the riparian planting needs to be finalized because the bare root seedlings that will be planted on top of the hill in logged forest will be arriving soon. All hands (and strong muscles) will be needed to transport them up the hill and get them properly planted in the forest.
