This dwarf tree is about 5 years old now and has produced fruit each year. The tree is loaded with buds that will open in the next week or so.
The tree’s edible fruit is known by many names, including: Asian pear, Chinese pear, Korean pear, Japanese pear, Taiwanese pear, zodiac pear, and sand pear.
Even though they are one of the earliest trees in the garden to flower, they are one of the latest varieties to mature to ripe. I was eating the Asian pears right off the tree well after all the leaves fell from in the fall and even after some of the frosty nights.
